If you notice in the JUne 2010 Exam, almost all schools have very high passing rates. Almost all were able to get a 100%. Why is this so? If you look closely at the results only the practical exam examinees were included in the computation of the passing rate. This is very misleading. The computation of the passing rate must include all those who took the theoretical examinations and not only the practicals.

What they did was they let possibly more than a thousand examinees take the theoretical exams and about only 300+ were able to pass. They let the 300 take the exam and about 200+ examinees passed. The error was, they only computed the passing rate of the practical exams and excluded the hundreds who failed the theoretical exam, thus making the passing rate of all the schools very high! The bad thing about it is that it was published in the leading newspapers possibly misleading the public into thinking that the "Dentistry Board Exam" is a piece of cake and that all schools are doing really well.

The passing rate should be computed as the total number who PASSED BOTH PRACTICAL AND THEORETICAL DIVIDED BY TOTAL NUMBER OF BOTH THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL EXAMINEES.This will show the real picture.

both courses are good. i came from a family of optometrist and dentists.

in dentistry, malaki ang pwede mong maging income IF you have your own clinic and if you're established. easy money kung tutuusin. sa isang bunot 500+ din un. kapag orthodontist ka naman (u can do braces) 40k+ naman ang magiging kita mo. but the cons of being a dentist, halos parang market na ang mga dental clinic. sa isang lugar makakakita ka ng mga dental clinic averagely 3-5. kung misan pa nga hilera pa ang mga clinic. sa dentistry ang mga pupunta sayo mga mayayaman o may mga kaya. pwede kang mabuhay nang sira-sira ipin mo.

in optometry, the deal is mawalan ka na ng mga ipin wag lang makakita nang malabo at ideprive mo ang sarili mo makakita ng magagandang bagay sa mundo. your patients are forced to go to you kapag may mga sakit sa mata. unlike dentist pwede mong inuman ng pain reliever ang sakit mo sa ipin. kahit mahirap ka or mayaman kailangan mo pumunta sa optometrists para makakita ka nang malinaw.

It is not a professional answer...I thought you came from a family w/ medical career..but the way you answer doesn't suits you to be one..anyway, I studied medicine as may predentistry..and I am now taking dental medicine...I find it quite difficult than medicine because it takes a lot of time to practice yes to study. unlike medicine or other medical career oriented course, dentistry needs both skill and knowledge..and to tell you..hindi lng bsta pinapabayaan ang sakit ng ngipin..we are doctors also..we have same rank with medical doctors, we can also diagnose systemic diseases..well magaling kc ang school ko and we are trained tlga in dental school...we are a combination of different courses..try mo mag dent pra malaman mo..maari ngang mahalaga ang mata mo pra makakita..pero may mga diagnosis sa oral cavity na may lead to complications in your eyes..and we're not only dealing with the teeth perse.. it's just 40% of what we are capable with..
